JUNE 12: M.K.O ABIOLA, AN ACCIDENT OF HISTORY, NOT A HERO OF DEMOCRACY Many people have been praising and regarding Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola the acclaimed winner of the june 12, 1993 presidential election as the hero of Nigeria democracy, this is a fallacy. Abiola is not an hero of democracy, he is just an accident of history who was lucky to have been voted by the majority at the poll. Anybody who is a student of history will know that Abiola was over-ambitious and desperate to hold office, the real heroes of democracy are the people who faced the military and wielded guns in their hands, most of them lost their lives, different body parts and even their properties and families in this fight. Let it be know that is this same Abiola that worked against Chief Obafemi Awolowo, with the help of the "ebora owu" who was the then military head of state by using his wealthy influence to make sure shehu SHAGARI won the 1979 general...
